I wrote this story for the Sycamore Hill Writers’ Workshop. What year was that? 2009? 2010? I owe a debt to all the participants, and especially Richard Butner for organizing the gathering and inviting me. More work and more fun than you can imagine. And you gotta write a story to bring with you, so there’s that. Almost all my published stories have been written for workshopping at Sycamore Hill.
This story won the Sturgeon Award for short fiction in 2012, and was anthologized in Jonathan Strahan’s The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year: Volume Seven.
